My research paper's goal is to explore the additives that are being put in our food, what those foods are, why companies are basing their production off of those additives, and what those additives are doing to our bodies. So to put it in more simple terms, my research paper is about additives. What I hope to learn through this is how much of our food economy is dependent on additives and why... is it because it's cheaper or because it's what's making us go back and buy those products again, and besides the monetary value, what are those products costing our health? I also want to know how much of what we think is "healthy food" has been injected with chemicals we can't even identify. So far, I've found it fairly easy to identify sources that show the effects of additives and the proposed reasons why food corporations use them. However, I've found it more difficult to find a source that states when the additive movement began, why it began, and what "processed food" really means (because I've recently found sources labeling vegetables under that category so I'm not sure if I should take preservatives off of the additive category for my paper). I also thought it'd be interesting to see what the cost difference is between adding additives in our food versus not having them at all, if that type of source is available.
Should I stick to the health and food corporation angle or would effect on consumer budget also be a useful statistic?
I think you should also check out the effect on consumer budget. If you use that, it'll give you more to talk about and more information for anyone that reads your paper. Since you are talking about additives you might find that it causes and effect in how much money people spend on that particular food product.
