OBESITY

This article is about the effects of obesity on our society today. They also state the many types of weight gains or loses throughout this article. Many people gain or lose weight from the sight of our food. They either never want it or want it too much. This article also states many statistics of what the average weight should be the percentages of the average weight gain per year. Especially in woman food is a major problem. An example in this text was that in 1999, there was sixty one percent of Americans were obese. People or toddlers of a young age are on the charts on being obese starting a very young age. Once they get older the percentages rise up to thirty one percent for teenage girls and twenty eight percent for adolescent boys. Eating fatty foods like sugars and breads has became a lifestyle for the average American, to just sit in from the TV and eat away. Many people tend to eat because of maybe conditions they have like depression or eating disorders in general. I do not believe this is true but the article states that people to be more poor than others are more likely to turn out overweight and children will turn out over weight if they have parents who are overweight as well. There is also many negatives to being overweight and turning out to have more health conditions than what you would already have. For example, diabetes, hypertension and cancer can occur.

  1. I think it's very odd that people lose weight by just looking at it. I think it is very sad that children have an increasing chance of being obese. I don't quite remember the name of the video we watched, but the man stated that about 50 years ago you would never see an obese child. And you fast forward to today and its just a sad sight to see, it is a big problem that cuts people's lives short and they don't take it seriously most of the time until it's too late.

  2. I agree with you as well, it doesn't make any sense to me on how families that are poor happen to gain more weight than the ones who are wealthy. Furthermore, I believe this can be controlled through discipline , balancing out what you eat daily and making sure you just don't watch tv and sleep can be avoided. Though, obesity can later on be an inherited trait from family members before you.

  3. I like what you said simeon, It does make some sort of sense that poor people tend to be more obese. As poor people can not go out to eat healthier they stick to fast food which is much cheaper than the general foods. Hamburgers now days are cheaper than fruit and vegetables. With such low amount of income a 1.29 sandwich does sound better than making dinner that costs easily 10 dollars. I do however agree that this can be fixed through discipline and balance of diet. I believe we are all capable of managing a healthy diet but for some may be more difficult.
