New Year New Meat

In the beginning of this unit I didn't really feel like it was that relevant to me. I would eat what I wanted to eat and figured that I would just forget about the things I learned in a couple weeks like most people do however that turned out to not be the case. The more things I had learned about the food industry and the inner workings of it the more I would be conscious about my food. I still eat what I normally do although I always think of the story behind the meal. Now I do feel that it is worth it to pay a little more for organic foods or foods that have not been genetically modified whereas previously I did not ever think of buying those better treated foods. If could go back four years and carry the knowledge I have today I believe that I would have ate a lot less junk foods and prepare my own meals everyday from more organic sources. Meaning that I would buy chicken or beef that isn't from the big meat suppliers because of the way that they treat those animals and the quality of the meat. I also would have probably got into cooking a lot earlier because I would have seen the significance of making your own food and how important it really is. The food industry is a giant and there's not much one can do to really change it, but it doesn't hurt to try. Therefore I'll show my desire for non-GMO and organic products over conventional foods, if enough people switch the better and more natural foods then the industry will have to react to fit the consumer needs.

  1. I've been doing some thinking also and I see why organic products cost a little bit more. In my opinion, I feel like if people really want to be healthy and maintain good diet, they should grow their own produce because they know exactly where it comes from. Cooking your own food is also a big factor in trying to eat right. Good thoughts!

  3. I agree, I never really stopped to think about where my food came from. Before learning about this unit my mindset was that food was food and I was going to eat it no matter what. This unit changed my perspective on what I put into my body. I've been purchasing more organic foods and encouraging others to do the same. If we gradually change our ways, then the big industries will have to change like you said.
