to sum it up...
My mindset on food has changed in a positive way. I never really thought there would be so much behind food production. I was the typical girl who didn't bother to think about where my food was coming from or the process it took to get here. Now that I learned about our food system, I started to notice more things. For example when I would bring a tangerine to school, I would look at the sticker to see where it was coming from. Something I noticed was each tangerine I brought came from a different state. One day I had a tangerine from Nevada and the next day one from like Kentucky or Kansas. I thought that was pretty cool. I'm really taking into concern what I eat now. If i really want something, I'll make it myself because I'm really trying to decrease my consumption of unhealthy eating like fast food restaurants. I believe our country is in a constant battle of trying to decrease unhealthy eating and keeping profits high enough. However I feel like there still so much to do. Our school lunch programs have changed but aren't as good anymore. The new lunch guidelines are causing food to be wasted because nobody really likes what is being provided anymore. However limiting certain types of foods at school doesn't change the fact that there is still many unhealthy food places out there for us to go to. I believe as the years go by, our country will be in serious problems with health if something doesn't get done. The first step is to get involved with food production and learn how to to chose whats best for us.

I agree with you so heavily on the last part. Our food system and health system sort of shuns off the diseases going on right now, but if they keep ignoring it human health will definitely deteriorate. For them, as I said in my post is all about making money, hopefully one day it'll go back to actually caring about people as we should. All we can do as of now is pick healthy foods and be concerned about where it comes from and continue to do our research even if it's not for school. - Vivian Shepherd
ReplyDeleteI am just like you. Actually ever since this food production unit we had done I try to not eat as much as I did because I do not know what the food as has been through or came from. I do not know, It lost my appetite overall. But I agree on the fact that our country is going down hill and faster than we know it if someone does not step up and handle our food production.
