Well, I decided to do my research topic on how we can help low income families in California prevent childhood obesity and help with the children that already have obesity. I honestly don't know how I decided to choose the topic of childhood obesity. Now that I have learned more about my topic, it concerns me that a great amount of children in the United States are obese. According to one of my articles, one in five children in the United States is overweight. One of the main reasons why so many kids are obese is because healthy foods are expensive. It upsets me to see that healthy foods like fruits and vegetables are more expensive than junk foods like a cheeseburger. In most cases, families can only afford cheeseburgers or other unhealthy foods because of the prices of healthy foods. It's quite simple, if we all come together and press the government about this issue then it will be resolved because it's an important problem that only keeps growing. Through my research, I hope to find organizations that are trying to prevent or help kids with childhood obesity. If you think about it, we rarely see any commercials or billboards relating to obesity. The question I would like to ask my classmates is how can someone start an organization to help children that are obese? Maybe someday in the future I can start one of these organizations. Hopefully this blog made you more aware of the obesity affecting a great number of children.

  1. This is a great topic for the research paper! I think that if you wanted to start an organization to help obese children you should start with the schools. Maybe help a school plant a garden where kids could learn about growing healthy food and making better choices when it comes to picking what they eat. They could learn and get more nutritional food at the same time. Instilling these ideas early on in a child's mind will help them as they grow up and start to pick what they eat for themselves.

  2. The idea that unhealthy foods are cheaper than fruits and vegetables is shocking to me. If it was the other way around, there would be less obesity in America; however, it is hard to change something that is so common in our country. Fast foods are known to be nearly everywhere we go in America, and although it would help America's health, not everyone would agree with this change. If we ever find a way to change the price of healthy foods, we would start seeing health improvements in all of America.
