All the things we thought we know about the food industry turned out different than it actually is. Now that I realize, food is more complex than I thought. I always think that food coming from groceries is none other than a basic process of marketing but there's a lot that's going on behind it. At first, when I saw that "food" is the topic we're discussing in class, I thought to myself that it sounds irrelevant & thinking how it will benefit us if we're only going to talk about is food which sounds to me that it's not a serious topic but I was wrong. I learned a lot about the politics of food than I imagine, well I never expected that it will fascinate me this much.
However, if I could go back 4 years knowing this knowledge, I think my perspective about food will not change because all I can think about is eating food pretty much. Although, if I had the chance, I would probably change the way I eat & my diet as well because knowing the truth about food, it makes me more careful on what I eat. Eating healthier is kinda what I'm setting myself to do to get my body in more physical shape.
On the contrary, I feel like food related problems mostly occurs in the U.S. with all the obesity & stuff & other countries seems to be just fine. Overall, food makes the world a better place :)
I did not think this topic was going to be this serious. I thought this unit was just gonna talk about different types of foods across the world, but it ended up being an eye-opener. The Politics of Food actually changed my mindset about food, and made me realize that the way food is produced is not as it seems. After doing the research, I do not see myself stopping from eating fast food places or meats, but I will try to be more careful. You can't really stop eating it because fast food places are everywhere in America.
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting how you (and many others including myself) would be willing to change their diet if they could go back in time or had know sooner. It is hard to change the diet of a person when they are so accustomed to what they eat now, it can almost feel impossible.. It is not surprising when people say "If I had known..." and say what they would change, but if we think about it now we know. What can we do with the knowledge we all know have? Change now. As I said, it is hard for many to actually change their diets now especially knowing how delicious food is even if they are bad for us. I want to try and make a change now, instead of thinking what I could have done if I had known sooner. Sorry, I am speaking about me personally too haha I also used to say, "Man, if I had known sooner I would have totally changed my diet!" But I have come to realize nothing will ever truly change if I keep thinking this way. This food project really did help me realize this and become aware of my actions I take with food everyday. I liked reading this post! yes, food is more complex and the sad thing is it really shouldn't be.This was very eye opening, and helpful. I want to take the knowledge I posses and try to make a change for myself now, as hard as it may be :)
