My topic is about cultured meat, which in itself is a fairly new topic that has recently arisen, and that's basically the source of my problems right now. Cultured meat is essentially meat grown in a lab from cells taken from a cow that are given nutrients that make the cells rapidly multiply until a hamburger patty is formed.
What I hope to find from my research is the effects on the environment that would occur if cultured meat was perfected. I'd also like to know how many more animals would be saved from the that goes on in meat packing industries and such, and how many people would actually be willing to eat cultured meat when it finally appears in grocery stores since it appears to be a controversial topic, and many of the people I've asked in person have said they wouldn't eat this kind of meat. Even when I first came across the topic, I wouldn't have hesitated to say no if asked to try cultured meat.
My research is basically falling short of everything involving cultured meat. It's such a new topic and most of the articles are from February 2017, and that's just last month. I would like anything and everything to do with cultured meat or in vitro meat; articles, videos, TED talks, if there are any involving cultured meat.
Actually, something I could add in to my research paper is a survey of how many of you guys would be willing to eat cultured meat when it comes out, or if you aren't willing to eat cultured meat and why? So a comment down below answering that question would be extremely beneficial!!
Your topic has been ringing around in my head ever since I heard you speak of it. Its something that no one really would think about when doing this project, like lab grown meats like that's taking food to a new level where you grow it in a dish. I mean most of our food is developed, altered, or tested in a lab which is kind of scary. For example my topic is corn, when you think of it you think corn on the cob, not 8 different sweeteners derived from corn like high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, crystalline fructose and many more. Anyways I don't have any resources pertaining to your topic but I'll help by giving my opinion/answering your survey. Personally, I would try the meat, just because it would be such a marvel that something along those lines is possible. Although I wouldn't eat it continuously because it would be such a new thing. Scientist wouldn't know what kind of problems or effects it could have on people. What longer term and short term symptoms it may cause or what diseases you can acquire from consuming it. Things like DNA mixing could happen who knows, there's so many possibilities with new scientific breakthroughs like this. Sometimes messing and altering nature isn't the right thing to do, there are limits for certain things, this one has yet to be placed within the brackets.
ReplyDeleteYou chose a really interesting topic. When I read what you had written so far, I was impressed with all the information you had. There are so many benefits to it. I was never really aware of cultured meat.
ReplyDeleteI think I would give cultured meat a try because I mean, it's not like it has any GMO's or harmful chemicals. It's just grown in a lab.
I think it's pretty cool how science keeps advancing, enough to discover cultured meat.
