Ways to Prevent Trolling

After reading the articles about online trolling, I realized that preventing trolls is very easy. There are many ways to do this. An example is having a pending comment system that allows people to comment but an online moderator has to approve of the comment before everyone else can see it. This makes the comment section a lot cleaner and less trolling will occur. The comments will be about the actual topic, and not just someone harassing others. Many social medias are starting to implement ways that will also help users avoid trolls. Another example is user created block lists that let people know who the trolls are. People can use this to find out if someone is trolling or not. Many social medias are thinking about adding a credibility system that makes the user put their personal information so not just anyone can comment, only the people who have knowledge and are trusted can.

  1. I really like the idea of having a online moderator for the comments. So many times I have tried to read other people's thoughts on subjects that I 'm reading about but then all I find is arguments that sometimes aren't even on the subject that the original post was on. Having a moderator would prevent these distracting comments and would allow serious people to express their opinions.

  2. I agree with what you are saying. Having a moderator to approve the comment before it is posted would improve the discussion of the topic. On the other hand, to be a moderator, that work must be very tedious. Having to read every single little comment in order to see if it is off topic or bothersome is too much work. Especially if the topic being discussed is very serious.

  3. I do not think that certifying identity and knowledge and background will affect the amount of trolls or how trolls talk to people on the internet. In one of the articles from "Room for Debate" and one comment struck out at me, it said " Sticks and Stones... do you think women and people of color are immune or incapable of such behavior", it doesnt matter what your background is or what training you have. Sometimes, bad people are just bad people. People are vicious and people are petty. Regardless, of what their stand point is in education or economics, humans will be humans and continue to cope by displaying emotion in any way possible.
