AUTHOR’S NOTE: Reading this may result in the following thoughts:
“Holy crap, this guy is freaking corny!”
“Sure yeah, I could TOTALLY help change things.”
Regardless of such things, this is what I believe to be true. I think that we can all make things better simply if we try.
Trolling and cyberbullying are two problems that we have seen throughout this unit that are only more and more plaguing our lives through the internet. It’s a problem that people can’t help but try and find an impossible solution for.
For example, many want a tighter grip on online communities in what they post and write to prevent harassment, while the perpetrators online that make such violations against our morals and ethics simply hide behind their “freedom of speech” as if it’s a freedom to hate.
That is exactly where the problem is.
People have become numb to the ways of human life. Technology grows, while our sense of humanity lessens. Empathy is becoming a rarity. The fact that we can’t all recognize ourselves as human beings. That we can’t (the corny part I warned about) recognize ourselves as one.
It’s getting only tougher and tougher for the world to move past the hate. Many blame anonymity for this, but I say that isn’t the problem. If anything, anonymity simply liberates those filled with hate. Without it, the hate would only be more hidden. Anonymity only makes things more clear on internet platforms.
At the end of the day, the solution is to just try and spread human progression.
We need social awareness and the ability to have empathy.
We’ve all felt pain, sadness, and loss. We know how terrible it all is.
We also know what happiness is and how great it can be.
So let’s say screw you Internet.
Screw you people filled with hostility and resentment.
We can make things better with time.
Go comment on somebody and let them know how awesome they are.
Go comment and let people know their importance to you and the rest of the world.
Trolling definitely will not be eradicated, like the rest of the bad in the world will never be.
Still, you can make a difference. You can help make some type of change.
It’s worth a shot anyway.
This is something that I can get on board with. This year, I've been living by the words "The world needs more kindness" and this would only further my reach. You could even use anonymity to spread kindness on the internet. People generally think they don't have the power to change anything. That the internet is so vast a place that nothing you say can ever make it better. But a small kind comment here and there could really make someone's day, and in my opinion, making someone (even a stranger) smile is one of the best feelings in the world. Also, what they say about karma is true. Whatever you dole out into the world will come right back at you, so we should do our best to put as much kindness in the world as possible
