A Reflection of Some Sort

I'd like to say that I firmly believe that I've completely exhausted my supply of ideas to talk about this topic of trolls and anonymity. There's nothing more I want to say, so instead I'll talk about my thoughts during this whole unit.

Honestly, I was taken aback by the fact that we were talking about trolls in our ERW class. I've only seen the term being used around the internet on sites like YouTube, and never thought it would ever find its way into an educational setting, so when we started, I didn't take it quite seriously. The more we delved through the topic, the more I saw the same points being made over and over again. "Trolls are taking over." "We should get rid of them." "Anonymity is bad" "Anonymity is good".
It was very repetitive, and once we read a few of the articles, you already knew the whole situation at hand and where you stood.

I don't think I've ever formulated an opinion on anonymity before, but going into this unit I had an unconscious idea of what I thought about it. Going through this unit forced me to solidify that idea into a strong argument. I was for the side that felt like anonymity contributed to the freedom of the internet, and that's what I based my essay on.

Overall, I'd say that I enjoyed and will definitely remember this unit in the coming years as it's different than the units I had to go through in previous English classes. It made me think about something that I'd usually wouldn't think about even though I encounter it almost everyday. How did you guys feel about this unit? Did you enjoy it or would you have preferred something else?

  1. I didn't have an anonymity before either, but now I think it should be there still the good's out weigh the bad's. But theres always gonna be negative people out there, I guess it shouldn't faze you because it would give them another reason to continue. #Whoknows
