Being anonymous online can be a good thing for those who use it positively. It can be used to share ideas and help others in several ways. But it can also be used in a negative way. Being online is an option, it is not necessary. Some people are mean and some are just evil, but again it is your choice to be online. When you go online you take the risk of people talking bad about you or saying awful things to or about you. This is their right, they have the right to say nice or mean things. This is the beauty of our country, Free Speech. You don't have to agree or like what someone says, but you must deal with the fact that this is a right our country has long had. If someone says nasty things about you, you can just ignore it. Your feelings do not determine whether a person gets to exercise their rights. You can simply continue to scroll on, or not be online anymore. I think people who take those kinds of comments too seriously to the point where they try to silence those they don't agree with or like what they say, are awful people. I personally don't think it is right for people to be saying nasty things about others, but I do stand by their right to do so and will NEVER try to take that away from them.
Although I agree that people have a right to speak freely and express their rights appropriately, I believe that saying being online is an option can sound a little harsh. In today's age, being online is a necessary thing that is used for either homework, learning, or even interacting with people through social media. For example, Youtube is a site that many use to learn new things or to watch videos for fun, a person should be worried of being harassed for posting a comment or publishing their work. Being online is a privilege and people should be able to use it without having the fear of being harassed. The point of this is to stop trolls, not discourage or dismiss the victim from using social media. A person also has a right to post whatever they desire without fear. Yes, they can ignore the trolls, but what can a person do when the troll goes as far as stalking them, throwing threats, and even to the point of making extreme comments of abuse towards the victim? A person shouldn't fear being online. The right will stay here and it will never go away, but I believe there should be a limit as to how far a person can go, especially when someone is in danger.
