Not Just Pranks
When people think of "trolling", they picture the much more simple form of it. They see it as messing with people online pulling little pranks and stunts, trying to cause some anarchy on social media. Although it can go so much deeper and cause so much more trouble than a little tension over social media. Trolls can also be people that steal identities, ruin lives, cause irreversible havoc, and make people want to end their lives because of the things they put them through. As technology continues to advance it opens up endless possibilities for trolls to pave paths for causing disaster for people. They have ways to hack into your personal information and use it against you in very hurtful and sinister ways you never thought possible. Some of them show no mercy when they are trying to mess with you, but a lot of them don't realize that its an actual human being that they are harming. Trolling can also lead to cyber-stalkers that find ways to follow your every move on and off the internet. There is also cyber-bullying that is happening all around the country and its a difficult phenomenon to stop, because of how powerful the internet is. It really makes you think about all the bad that internet has created throughout its existence, it has done immense good for mankind. Although its slowing ripping us apart and allowing so much possibility for all the hate that is still in society to erupt in many new ways and areas like never before. Don't get me wrong I use the internet like everyone else that we know, but we never really think about how scary and menacing it can be when its power it used for bad and evil. Its so difficult to find a solution to "trolling" when one word is used to describe an immense amount of definitions that vary from pranks to robbing someone of their identity for the fun of it. This makes solving the issue hard its like a hydra, you chop off one head for it to grow three more.

I agree with what you stated about trolls not just being the negative people who comment rude things on social media. There is so much more to being a troll rather then commenting or posting bad on someone else. Like you said, there is hackers and identity thieves that all lead to chaos and anger. Sadly, this is becoming a key figure in society that will hopefully die down soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy you brought up the broad spectrum of trolling and how it has a plethora of meanings. Trolling to one person could be harmless fun to another and I guess that's where the line gets blurred and things get sort of fuzzy. Most things that bother some people don't really bother others, so how do we stop something with such a wide range of sensitive wrong doings.
ReplyDeleteExactly my point there are no boundaries for what is or isn't trolling so what do you really define it as? Is it completely harmless jokes or is it a crime that should be brought to the police. People are uneducated about how the internet works and where lines need to be drawn.
