1. Should I get a job during my first year of college?
I was speaking to someone with experience and they told me that I could get a job but just not in the first semester of my Freshman year. The reason the person told me this is because they said it's better to get used to the college lifestyle. After your first semester it is okay to get a job to help with your expenses. I would recommend getting a job on or near the campus.
2. If I get accepted into Cal State Long Beach, should I live on campus or commute?
Living on campus cost a great deal of money but seems like such a fun experience. Whenever I have a conversation with a college graduate the first thing they tell me is that I should dorm. They tell me it's a once in a lifetime opportunity and that it's worth the money. It does sound like a fun experience but do I really want to pay all that money when I live 15 minutes from the school? That is something I have to think about.
I think that it is beneficial to get a job in your first year of college but I also think that getting a job as soon as you can would also be really good. If you have a job then you don't have to be reliant on asking your parents for money and you can buy whatever your heart desires. It might be better to hold off on trying to get a job in the first semester because it would be pretty difficult to juggle all your classes and begin learning your job.
ReplyDeleteI think you should commute because of the money cost and it is pretty close. Maybe transfer out later and live on campus then.
ReplyDeleteGetting a job in college seems like the right thing to do so you can start saving up money to pay off everything you will owe. Although it might seem like a distraction from school, if you can get it done, it will pay off greatly. I think you shouldn't live in a dorm because it is unnecessary. If you live close enough to the school, you should just travel there since it won't be as expensive as living in a dorm. Even if it is a lifetime experience, it saves a lot of money which could take many months or years of working.
